Real Estate Scam Alert
Timeshare owners are falling victim to scammers posing as licensed real estate agents. I became aware of this scam when a timeshare owner contacted me. She informed me that an impersonator was using my name and license number, and was offering to facilitate the sale of her unit for an exorbitant sum of money if she would just wire him funds to cover the closing costs. I have received several other similar calls including one from a woman that had wired the scammer almost $3000.
These incidents have been reported to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for investigation, but please beware of all unsolicited phone calls. The Better Business Bureau is a great consumer resource for researching any company to ensure that you are conducting your business with a reputable firm. Additionally, seek the advice and representation of an experienced professional for all real estate matters.
I have been interviewed by several local news affiliates regarding this scam. I’ve attached links to their stories below.
